4 Things That Are Distracting You From Living Your Purpose

There are unfortunately a lot of things that can distract us from living our purpose if we allow them to.

Here are the main four distractions that I’ve seen:

1) Caring about what people think.

Caring about what people think about you is a distraction because you can’t care about what people think, and care about what God thinks at the same time. They are opposites. God created you and your purpose and He’s the only one who can lead you in living out the life you’ve been created to live. So why is it then, that we often find ourselves seeking after the approval and acceptance of others?! People can’t give us the instructions on how to live our purpose, they aren’t built for that. We’ve all been created to live out our own purpose, and that purpose that God has given us is specific to each of us. We’re only created to serve God, not people.

2) Living for your haters.

Living for your haters is a distraction because similar to caring about what people think, when you live for your haters, you don’t realize that you aren’t living for The Lord. Instead of doing the things that God has called you to do, you’ll find yourself living to prove to yourself and to others; that every mean word that someone said about you is wrong. That’s not cool! You have to know and believe that you are loved by God, and that God has a purpose and plan for you! You have been created on purpose for a purpose! Spend time in God’s Word daily so that you can continue to draw close to Him, and as you do, you’ll see that living for your haters isn’t worth it because it distracts you from doing the very thing you’ve been placed here to do.

3) Only doing what’s trending in life.

Only doing what’s trending in life is a distraction because our individual lives and purposes are not the same, the only part of them that should be similar is The Holy Spirit shining in and through them! When we do what’s trending, we miss out on the opportunity to serve Jesus by standing apart from the crowd. We can’t fit in with the rest of the world, and stand out for the Glory of God at the same time, it’s one or the other. Fitting in with the rest of the world requires us to water down all that God has called us to be in order to be, in order to be accepted. Living for The Lord allows you to be all that you’ve been created to be as you live in ultimate freedom because you know that you are loved and accepted by God! We must choose to understand that, fitting in and wanting acceptance from anyone outside of God, is a distraction from being all that God has called us to be.

4) Social Media.

Social Media can be a HUGE distraction, and a lot of the time it is the main one. The Lord is still working on me with this one, but here’s what I do know. Social media is built on an algorithm that strives to get your attention. So if we’re focused on serving the algorithm, we’ll miss an opportunity to serve The Almighty! Our lives were given to us as a gift, and I know that The Lord wouldn’t want us to waste all day, everyday, spending the most precious currency in life (time), in order to get a few likes, comments, follows, and shares. I’m not going to lie, I like comments, shares, likes and follows too, but together we must work to view these as a small reflection of the impact that our post or blog had on someone, not the fuel for why we do what we do.

Love ya Sis! Praying that you draw near to God and pursue your God-given purpose with everything you are.
